Casting Call For Raine's New Short Play "Unbending"

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Casting "Unbending," a 10-minute short play to be presented as part of the International Human Rights Art Festival.

Synopsis: A young queer person, inspired after learning about the advocacy project “50 Bills for 50 States” which proposes to ban conversion therapy in every state across America, visits the conversion therapist for the last time.

ROLES AVAILABLE:

Boy: Any gender, 18-35. Any ethnicity.
A young queer person coming into their identity while grappling with the pressures of conversion therapy. Vulnerable and questioning, but is finding an inner strength and courage that can soon no longer be contained. Can be played by any gender identity and pronouns will be swapped to reflect the identity of the actor. This role requires interpretive movement/dance, but you do not have to be trained in either to apply. Looking for a willingness and comfort to explore movement as a part of the role. Note: When submitting, include both a read side and up to 1 minute (feel free to have it be shorter) of your interpretation of the final lines of "Boy Side A" set to one of the provided audio clips.

Therapist: Any gender. 30+. Any ethnicity.
A conversion therapist who believes deeply in their mission to "help" their young clientele. Composed and methodical, but with a fervent conviction in what's right and wrong that can trickle out as frustration. Gender is flexible and pronouns can be adjusted based on casting.
